Our Lady of the Snows: Sixth-graders fall short vs. St. Fidelis

By The TimesLedger

The Our Lady of the Snows sixth-grade boys basketball team has always had the reputation of being a fast, aggressive, hard-pressing team. This past Saturday the team proved that and more. They now will be known as young men with unbelievable heart, determination and a committment to teamwork.

Saturday, St. Fidelis faced off against OLS in tremendous battle that wasn't decided until the buzzer sounded ending the third overtime. The final score showed St. Fidelis winning by 1, 40- 39 but everyone in attendance would agree that there were no losers.

The Snows' boys were lead by Ray Potestio’s 13 and Ryan Paroulek’s 11 points. Anthony Civitano scored eight points while being a physical presence inside. Point guard Brian Biscotti consistentently broke the trap and quarterbacked the offense, while shooting guard Jonathan Dupuy scored four points and seemed to be everywhere on defense. Alex Rydzewski came off the bench to give an added physical presence on the boards and hit one of his two foul shots. Leroy Herbert entered the game and gave the team an offensive spark by scoring two points. The usual defensive pressure was led by Billy Fitzgerald, Nicholas Walker and Kevin McMurray. Arnab Mitra proved again that he is a steady rebounder and defender.

The Snows boys may have lost in the final score, but they showed what CYO sports is all about; teamwork, sportsmanship, determination and hard work. The boys not only made their coaches proud, but also their parents, friendsand families. When everyone looks back on this game, they will remember watching an exciting, competitive battle between two evenly matched teams. Both teams left everyything on the court and both programs are extremely proud of the effort put forth.

The Snows coaches want to congratulate the boys on a super season and a great final game.
