Graziano’s Ravioli slips by Whitehouse Restaurant

Girls’ A Division

Graziano’s Ravioli defeated Whitehouse Restaurant, 17-14. The crowd roared as Whitehouse’s Kaitlyn McGrory scored her first basket of the season. The 8-year-old is the youngest player in the division, playing with girls up to age 12. Also scoring for Whitehouse was Corinne Lippert with 8 points, Monica Ng with 2 points and Theresa Schwenk with 2. Scoring for Graziano’s were Amanda Bell with 13 and Manuela Uribe and Joanna Bakalis scoring 2 each.

Girls’ B Division

In it’s second win of the week, Cosmo Plumbing took an early lead against Napa and Sonoma. Jenna Fogelman, Christine McGrory and Colleen Brennan led the offense for Cosmo with strong support from Rebecca Colligan. Megan Latham played star defense shutting down Napa’s offense and controlling the defensive boards. Samantha Litrenta and Amy Dhaliwal had solid games helping Cosmo to hold the lead. In the first half, Cosmo had a 10-point lead. Napa fought back in the second half to cut the lead to one. Shannon Kerns and Ariana Barongi played well for Napa. The excitement level was high until the final seconds. With the final weeks of the season here, it is obvious that each and every player has worked hard and improved her skills.

Major Division

Marble Mode defeated Graham Restoration by eight points. Dave Martin and Jonathan Lee led the Marble Mode team from the guard positions. Zach Frankel and Joe Montgomery played their usual hard-nosed games and Anthony Kapovic and Nick Vigorito grabbed much of the rebounding for the victors. Coach Jay Vigorito seemed to have successfully confused the Graham Restoration team with his newly renovated zone defensive schemes and his innovative “zig-zag” offense. Joey Graham and Tommy Franceschini played exceptionally well for Graham Restoration.

Varsi Deli matched up with Whitestone Hardware and came up with a 38-35 victory. Varsi held a lead for most of the game, but had to fight off a big fourth-quarter push from Whitestone. Keith Capparelli, who led all scorers with 15 points, came up with the clutch foul shots in the last minute to secure the victory. Michael Berndt also hit two important foul shots in the last four minutes as he directed Varsi’s offense to the win. Andrew Lehr’s 9 points, Jose Barcena’s great inside game and big baskets from Amit Chada and John Kiely were big factors in the win. Whitestone was led by nice all-around games from Mena Yacoub, Bennet Brown and Matthew Santuefemia.

Minor Division

In their most balanced team scoring of the season, Carvel of Whitestone defeated Boar’s Head, 44-34. John Pluchino had his best game of the season, scoring 8 points and playing sparkling defense. Excellent team passing in the last four minutes of the game enabled Carvel to hold the lead. Max Meltzer had 12 points, Joe Lumley 8, Tommy Schreiber and Mike Wiederhold each had 6 and Jonathan Soto added 4. Anthony Romano added 5 steals. Giancarlo Santillo led all scorers with 24.

Verdi’s Restaurant defeated Carvel of Whitestone, 44-40. Tommy Schreiber of Carvel of Whitestone had his best game of the season, scoring a season-high 9 points, including a clutch three-pointer that almost brought Carvel back to victory. Verdi’s Restaurant was led by Brian Campbell. Mike Wiederhold and Max Meltzer added 12 points for Carvel.

Bantam Division

JAM Service Company played well over this past weekend, registering wins over Franklin’s Printing, 23-19, and Lee’s Jewel Box, 18-8. In the first game it came down to the last four minutes as both teams exchanged the lead throughout. Patrick Berndt was able to convert 3-of-4 from the charity stripe in the last two minutes to round out his terrific all-around game and secure the win for his team. Jose Hasang had a big basket for JAM, while Sal DiMaria and Francisco Kyriacou each displayed great hustle and terrific defensive pressure. For Franklin’s, Steven McGrory was deadly from the outside with 10 points and Jeffrey Johnston hit several big baskets. In the second game, Davis Hazin had a big second half basket, Mike Gallagher was a major presence on the defensive end and Kenny Lehr directed the offense from the point as JAM was able to pull out the win. For Lee’s, Ben Tockershewsky and Dustin Lee both played well.

Novice Division

In an exciting come-from-behind win, Team 4 Magic beat Team 1, 10 – 8. With the score 8-2 midway into the third quarter, Team 4 Magic pulled together on defense and stopped Team 1 from scoring again, while sinking some baskets to put their team on top. Scoring for Team 4 Magic was Travis Lippert with 5 points, Brandon Capponi and Nicolai Gallegos scoring 2 points each and John Doyle scoring 1. Team 4 Magic’s defense was led by Joe Almodovar, Brian McGann, Stephen Mirtsopoulos, Constantine Dakis, and Gregory Pitarresi.
