The New York City Commission on Human Rights presented the Flushing Jewish Community Council Multicultural Committee program Dance Into Spring: Connecting Cultures through Dance, Song and Story, at the Poppenhusen Institute. Performances were by master of ceremonies Barbara Aliprantis, Man Li Lin, Wendy Moscow and Sridar Shanmugam. This delightful event was co-sponsored by Assemblyman Brian McLaughlin (D-Flushing).
Congratulations to Maureen Napolitan, who bowled 212 at Whitestone Lanes.
Congratulations to state Sen. Frank Padavan (R-Bellerose) for receiving the “Man of the Year” plaque from the Little Neck Douglaston Lions Club. He was honored for 35 years of public service, including 31 years as a New York state senator. In December 2002, he was elevated to vice president pro tempore by Senate Majority Leader Joe Bruno, making him one of the state Legislature’s top leaders.
Anchor-Astoria Lodge 729 had a public presentation of the Drug and Alcohol Abuse Essay Awards, Scholarship Award, Camp Turk Award and DeWitt Clinton Award.

Jessica Meyerson received the Scholarship Award; Lauren MacDonald received the Camp Turk Award; and Joan Vogt received the DeWitt Clinton Award.
The College Point Security Patrol received recognition.
Holy Trinity School will hold its 24th Annual Fashion Show Friday, April 11, at 7 p.m. at the Immaculate Conception Center in Douglaston. There will be fashions by Dress Barn. A donation of $40 includes buffet, open bar, dessert, fashion show and door prize raffle. Tickets are available at the school and rectory office.
Historic Bus Trips sponsored by Poppenhusen Institute will be Saturday, April 26, to Richmond Town Restoration Village on Staten Island for Spring Festival. A $20 fee includes transportation from the Poppenhusen Institute to Richmond Town and entrance fee. The meeting time is 9 a.m., with departure at 9:30 a.m. Arrival back at the institute will be at 3:30 p.m.
Saturday, May 31, Fort Totten and the Officer’s Club meets at 9:30 a.m. Departure time is 10 a.m. Approximate arrival time back at the institute is 2:30 p.m. A $10 fee includes transportation and entrance.
Tickets for bus tours must be purchased in advance.
The Malba Association held its annual dinner-dance. Kathleen Georgio, president of the Malba Association, was master of ceremonies and certainly kept the party going. Angie Kyrakioudas was selected as “Person of the Year.”
Cay Soyer Perricone was chairman of the event. Borough President Helen Marshall presented an award, as did Councilman Tony Avella (D-Bayside) and Padavan. Community Board 7 manager Marilyn Bitterman also attended.
