St. John’s Prep JV crowned city champs, again

The St. John’s Prep junior varsity boys’ basketball team captured the CHSAA Division ‘B’ city championship for the second year in a row. The St. John’s Prep Red Storm finished the season with a record of 20-3.

In the CHSAA playoffs, the team defeated Mount St. Michael, 51-45, Cardinal Spellman, 63-50, and a very talented LaSalle Academy squad by the score of 60-52 in the championship game.

St. John's Prep coach Darius Penikas said the team’s success was a total team effort. Leading the way in the playoffs were Richard Thomas, who averaged 24 points per game, Jelani Winfield, who averaged 14 points per game, and Antoine Gregg, who averaged 9 points per game, and contributed great court leadership and terrific defense.
