TimesLedger Athlete of the Week: Robert Boland

Name: Robert Boland

School: Christ the King

Sport: Baseball

Position: Pitcher

Year: Senior

Height: 6-foot-2

Weight: 175 pounds

In his first game back from a hyperextended right ankle that kept him sidelined for two weeks, Boland was masterful in a 7-1 win over John Adams in the second round of the Monroe tournament Monday at Taft High School in the Bronx.

Boland got in front of almost every Spartan batter with a lively fastball that painted the outside corner. The 6-foot-2 senior righty carried a no-hitter into the fifth inning and allowed just one unearned run on two hits. Boland struck out 10 and walked just two.

“I knew they were a good hitting team, and I knew I couldn’t fall behind,” Boland said. “If I made a mistake, they’d take me deep. I knew I had to stay on top of things.”
