SJU to walk, raise $$$ for homeless aid

St. John’s University student organizations, including Campus Ministry and the St. Vincent De Paul Society, will sponsor the annual Walk for the Homeless on Friday from 9 a.m. – 10 a.m. at St. John’s University, beginning at Council Hall, 8000 U

The fundraiser consists of a 5K walkathon around the community, with all proceeds going to local area shelters and organizations to benefit New York’s homeless.

This year’s goal is to raise $35,000 — to top last year’s total of $30,000. Participants are asked to secure sponsors (i.e. $1 per kilometer) so that the student organizations at St. John’s can continue to make a substantial contribution to those that are in need. A minimum pledge of $50 is suggested.

There will be a brief prayer service before the start of the Walkathon. In the event of severe weather, the Walkathon will be held indoors. A simple lunch will be served in Marillac Hall cafeteria upon the finish. Registration is $10.
