On a beautiful Sunday evening the Modell’s Lions defeated the Gregs Tire and Auot Mets, 14-3. Anthony Meo for the Lions got the win, pitching the first three innings and allowing the Mets three runs. He was relieved by Steven Trummer, who pitched bri

The Lions got things started early when they scored five times in the first on hits by Steven Leccese, a home run by Kristopher Lim and an RBI single by Michael Labrada. They added two more in the fourth on walks to Leccese and Joseph Feisel and a two RBI triple by Labrada.

The Mets scored their three runs in the third on a walk to Michael Mandrin, an error by the Lions second baseman Feisel on a ball hit by Mike Costanza, and Jonathon Kruczowy hit a grounder to the third base side that was misplayed by Andrew Goltzman and scored Mandrin. Another error by Feisel scored the other Mets runs.

The Lions scored three more times in the fourth and put the game away in the sixth on an RBI single by Labrada and a home run from Goltzman.

For the Lions, Goltzman and Lim each had a home run and Joey Caraballo reached base three times, making this 10 in 11 at bats that he had reached base safely. But the star was Labrada, with three hits in four at bats and 4 RBIs. He also gunned down two runners trying to steal second and two tagged outs at home plate on possible Mets runs. It was an all-around great performance by Labrada.

Modells Lions score big win over  Centrury 21 Andron Yankees, 14-2

The Modell’s Lions defeated the Century 21 Andron Yankees Saturday, 14-2. It was the first win for the Lions against one loss in this early season. It was the Yanks’ third loss in four games.

The Lions sent their ace, Caraballo, to mound and he responded with a complete game for the victory. Caraballo strugled at times with his control on questionable pitches, but he kept posture and did not allow any liberties to the Yankees.

Caraballo did not allow any clean hits in the game, but two runs scored by the Yankees tarnished his performance in a bid for a no-hits no-runs game. He struck out 11 and walked seven batters in five innings of work. The only two Yankee runs came in the third on a ball hit by second baseman Michael Kaplan.

Randeep Singh missed for an error that was followed by another error off right fielder Stephen Lessece, allowing Kaplan to score, and the other on a double play ball hit by Ernie M., scoring Ernie Dembrosius for the Yanks’ other run.

The Lions scored early in the game, getting two runs in the first inning on an RBI hit by Caraballo, which scored Labrada, and a single off the bat of Anthony Meo, which scored Caraballo.

In the second, the Lions scored four more runs on a walk to Goltzman, Singh was hit by a pitch, walks to Labrada and Caraballo scored Goltzman, and a bases-clearing double by Meo put the Lions ahead 6-0. The Lions put the game away in the third when they scored six more times, highligted by home runs from Steven Trummer and Darryl Boston, who connected with two runners on base for three RBIs.

The Lions came together in this game and played good defense by backing up every play that was needed, putting the bat on the ball and agressive running that resulted in the 14 runs scored by the young Lions. Every Lions player contributed one way or another and made manager Hector Caraballo very proud as a result of the early hard work and dedication of the young ball players.

“It takes a lot of patience and dedication to teach these kids the basics of baseball, but when the results are positive and winning a baseball game is at reach, you have to feel pleased and happy that the message is sent to the young players,” he said.

For the Lions, Labrada had two hits at three at bats; Boston played good defense and had a homer; Joey Caraballo reached base in all four at bats, making it seven straight at bats in which he reached base; and Meo had three hits including a double to lead the Lions’ attack. Caraballo got the win by not allowing a clean hit and going the distance for the Modell’s Lions.
