The Greater Whitestone Taxpayers Civic Association and Councilman Tony Avella’s (D-Bayside) office sponsored a yellow ribbon event at Francis Lewis Park.
Marissa Baldanza of College Point is a Spark peer leader at her high school, Benjamin Cardozo. She and a few of her fellow students coordinated the 2nd Annual Teen to Teens HIV/AIDS Awareness Conference held on Friday, April 11, at Queensborough Community College, attended by 500 students from 15 schools. Baldanza’s family and school are very proud of her.

Fun reigned at Sports Night at St. Agnes High School in College Point. St. Agnes recently celebrated an evening filled with dance and sports at the annual Blue and White Sports Night. Susan Nicoletti, assistant principal, was proud to present the team captains, Elizabeth Rodriguez, white team, and Paula Botero, blue team, with flowers to celebrate their success.
For the past 23 years, St. Agnes High School has made a commitment to end world hunger, and this year has been no different. Students and faculty held a fast-a-thon during Lent to raise money for poor people in Africa. A total of $47,481 collected over the years has helped build a well and a clinic and has been used to purchase farm machinery and seeds.
The following events will be held at the Poppenhusen Institute: A free stress-reduction workshop from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., including deep-breathing visualization and coping techniques, healing music and herbal tea, will be Saturday, May 3.
There will be a bus trip to Fort Totten and the Historic Officer’s Club on Saturday, May 31. Tickets cost $10 and include transportation, entrance fee and tour. Tickets must be purchased in advance.
The College Point Historic Walking Tour will be Saturday, June 7, at 10 a.m. The tour is approximately two hours. The $6 fee includes refreshments at the end of the tour. Preregistration is required.
The College Point Memorial Day Parade will be Sunday, May 25, at 2 p.m. If you aren’t in the parade, it is important that you, your family and friends observe it. It is important to honor our armed forces who are defending our country and our people.
Sabina says…It is important to write your elected officials in regard to the loss of parks, zoos, fire stations and police, as this will become a serious situation, not only for our children but for everyone.
