Boro’s colleges ready students for graduation

The College of Aeronautics, located at 86-01 23rd Ave. in Flushing, was slated to honor Queens Borough President Helen Marshall during its 71st Commencement Ceremony Friday at 10 a.m.

Undergraduate and graduate commencement for St. John’s University was scheduled to be held Sunday at noon at the Queens campus, 8000 Utopia Parkway in Fresh Meadows. The commencement speech will be given by Dr. Ellen Baker, a NASA astronaut aboard the space shuttle Atlantis in 1989. She will be the recipient of the honorary Doctoral degree in science, along with her mother, former Queens Borough President Claire Shulman, who will be receiving an honorary Doctor of Laws degree.

Queens College has planned its commencement ceremony for May 29 at 9 a.m. with the 90-minute college-wide ceremony on the Quad on campus at 65-30 Kissena Blvd. in Flushing. Tickets are not needed and seating is on a first come, first serve basis. The parking lot opens at 7 a.m. and will close when full.

Roughly 30 minutes after the college-wide ceremony the divisional or departmental ceremonies were scheduled to be conducted respectively by the deans.

The 42nd commencement ceremony for Queensborough Community College was slated to take place May 30 at 9:30 a.m. at the main plaza of the campus at 56th Avenue and Springfield Boulevard in Bayside. A light luncheon and refreshments will be offered immediately following the ceremony in the Student Union Building on campus.

York College was scheduled to hold its 33rd commencement exercise May 30 at 9 a.m. on the college’s Athletic Field at 160th Street between Liberty Avenue and South Road. The guest speaker will be Alonzo Cruse, an alumni from the class of 1986 and the director of the Food and Drug Administration in Los Angles, and the former director of Import Operations in the FDA’s New York Office, located on the York College campus.
