Queens comedian, lawyer tells jokes for Scarborough

Michael Worthington will take the stage at the upcoming Comedy Night, Assemblyman William Scarborough’s (D-St. Albans) gala fund-raising festival this Saturday from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. at Black Spectrum Theatre in Roy Wilkins Park.

The kid voted funniest male in high school has been performing in clubs and hosting shows for more than two decades.

Worthington performs an observational style of comedy designed to have universal appeal. “My material is race-, religion- and gender-neutral,” he said. He said he feels that that type of comedy is off-putting.

The performance patrons of the fund-raiser can expect to see from this 39-year-old practicing attorney and single father of three should appeal to people of just about any tastes and sensibilities.

But if you expect to get the lawyer’s perspective on crime and punishment and related matters of jurisprudence, you won’t get it that night, at least not from this member of the bar. Worthington doesn’t do any lawyer material, ever, he stresses. That part of his life he prefers to leave in the courtroom.

It will be interesting to see just what he does find funny without skirting the law.

Tickets can be purchased at the Black Spectrum Theatre box office weekdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. For additional information call Tim James at 917-930-6850.
