To The Point: Flushing Phil predicts 6 more weeks of winter

By Sabina Cardali

Welcome to the Point. The Point being College Point. Punxsutawney Phil in Pennsylvania, Staten Island Chuck and Flushing Phil are still wearing their mufflers, so there will not be an early spring. These groundhogs know their stuff. I think they are wearing earmuffs, also.

Condolences to the family of Mary Corrigan. A beautiful co-celebrated mass by Holy Trinity and St. Fidelis took place.

Condolences to the family of May Pidgeon.

Blessings on the birth of Christina Sahellenir, parents Anna Marie and George Nicoletta.

Blessings on baby Katlin, mother Margaret and grandparents Tim and Dolly O’Donnell.

Mayor Michael Bloomberg, Gov. George Pataki and President George Bush at a White House ceremony transferred ownership of Governors Island from the federal government to New York. In 1800, the state gave the island to the Army, which turned it over to the Coast Guard in 1966. Bloomberg and Pataki intend to transform the island into a campus for CUNY.

Condolences to the families of the astronauts from the Columbia space shuttle: Indian-born Kalpana Chawla; Ilan Ramon, first Israeli in space; Cmdr. Rick Husband; Michael Anderson; David Brown; William McCool; and Laurel Clark.

Congratulations to Lorraine Darcy for bowling 221 and to Maureen Puppolo for bowling 209 at the Whitestone Bowling Alley.

It was great meeting Papazzio Restaurant’s Bill Black, who is working on a five-hour yoga program. I am generally not a yoga expert, but I am willing to try it. You will have to wait and see.

Sabina says…Last week it was a little chilly, but this week it is a lot chilly; therefore, I hope that you worked real hard on generating more warmth in your heart so that you will be able to generate it throughout your whole being.
