The Monsignor Farrell boys’ basketball team turned a lot of heads when it took on favored St. Francis Prep Sunday in the first round of the CHSAA Intersectionals at Archbishop Molloy High School in Briarwood.

But in the end, it was Bryan Geffen and his St. Francis Prep teammates who had the last laugh.

Geffen, who is second in the CHSAA ‘AA’ division in scoring, averaging 23.4 points per game, scored a game-high 30 points, holding off a stubborn Lions squad, 74-63.

Junior Kevin Ogeltree scored a game-high 30 points for the Holy Cross Knights in a heartbreaking 81-80 double-overtime defeat against All Hallows Sunday … Delise Johnson had 20 points and 17 rebounds to lead the Van Buren girls’ basketball team to a 60-45 win over Beach Channel in the PSAL Class B quarterfinals … Stephen Ferguson scored nine goals in three wins for the McClancy hockey team, including three goals and four assists in the Crusaders’ 7-3 win over Mount St. Michael in the opening game of the CHSHL ‘C’ semifinal series … Katie Driscoll scored a game high 25 points in Townsend Harris’ 55-52 loss to Midwood in the second round of the PSAL Class A playoffs.
