By Matthew Monks

Three Queens police officers rescued two people from a burning building on Hoyt Avenue Friday in an early morning blaze that injured eight people, according to police.

The fire originated and spread from the building at 29-12 Hoyt Ave., which was significantly damaged in the blaze, according to fire officials.

Police officers Richard Colucci, Niklas Locke and Orlando Celis from the 114th Precinct responded to a two-alarm fire at 6:41 a.m. and evacuated residents from 29-12 and the next door building at 29-14 Hoyt Ave., police said.

Four firefighters were treated at area hospitals for minor injuries sustained in the fire.

Four residents were also hurt, the most serious being a woman taken to Cornell Weill Burn Center with second-degree burns, fire officials said. The woman, whose name was not released, was listed in critical condition Monday.

A total of 106 firefighters from 25 units managed to bring the fire under control by 8:18 a.m.
