Big exhibit in Rockaways focuses on small artwork

What is it they say about great things coming in small packages?

“small, smaller, smallest: An Exhibition of Miniatures and Small Works” opening Saturday, March 27, at Rockaway Artists Alliance, showcases diverse artworks done on an intimate scale.

By the very nature of their size, these gems draw the viewer into their beauty, strength and fascination. The works range from a delicately miniaturized art gallery to white porcelain beasties of intriguing origin; from figurative sensual sculptures to evocative and powerful seascapes, landscapes and abstracts; and from finely-made jewelry to hand-pressed prints.

The juror for “small, smaller, smallest” is Rudy Shepherd, an artist, curator and educator living in New York City. He has organized exhibitions at the P.S.1 Contemporary Art Center, The Queens Museum of Art and has juried Scholastic’s National Art & Writing Awards.

Juried artists include Jae Hi Ahn, Norma Allende, Madeline Braisted, Jen Connell, Janet Dever, M. Elliott Killian, Lindsay Feuer, Esther A. Grillo, Susan Hartenstein, Christina Jorge, Maria Lambasa, Christian Le Gars, Rich Lilley, Denis Macrae, Ellen Miffit, Renée Rosenberg, Christina Sarquiz and Dave Taft.

The exhibit runs through April 25.
