Pizza Chef defeats Trio GCA in DAC playoff battle, 34-25

The problem with playoff games is, of course, someone has to lose. George Cafasso’s Trio GCA team has been see-sawing in and out of first place since the beginning of the season, and his class act spilled over to all of his girls.

Michelle Mirabella, Faye Zachariades, Zoe Kourkoumelis, Donna Cafasso, Lorie Greech, Elena Brandes and Patricia Salvio chipped in and had a great season. Andie Karow was hospitalized with injuries not pertaining to basketball and could not participate. This time not even Andie could have made a difference.

Pizza Chef was on. These girls came to play, determined to win. Alana Glaubiger had an outstanding game, and Halle Tenenbaum made some great defensive moves. Jackie Saturn and Julia Fusfeld continued to make baskets when it counted. Anna Lizzul and Nicole Davalos handled the ball well.

A major victory for Pizza Chef, which won, 34-25. Congratulations on a well-played game.

Wood Designers also suffered its first postseason loss. Katie Uriarte and Stephanie Mejia were high scorers on their team but could not catch up to Christina Trezza or Jessica Bondofeo of Patrick J. Falci & Daughters Inc.

Keren Baruch perfected her free shots, while Gina Loriggio excelled at defense. The girls came together to score an amazing 25 points in the last three segments. It was another great game for both teams.

A speedy recovery to Zoi Marguiles, who left the game with an injury.
