The pitch before, he nailed longtime St. Francis Prep baseball coach Bro. Robert Kent with a foul ball. But Alex Pinto stepped back up to the plate and delivered the game-winning hit. The sophomore centerfielder ripped the ball up the third-base line for an RBI-double to lead the Terriers to a 10-7 extra-inning win over McClancy Monday.

“Once he was all right I just got back in there and focused on what was coming next,” Pinto said. “This time I tried to stay back a little bit longer. I just flicked my wrists and I saw the ball and hit the ball.”

Pinto scored what looked to be the game-winning run in the top of the seventh inning when, after being hit by a pitch, he motored home on a two-out throwing error by Crusaders’ shortstop Vinny Johnson.

Honor Roll

Michael Xifaras continues to swing a hot bat for St. Francis Prep, belting a solo home run off the center field scoreboard in the top of the third inning. After leaving the game briefly after injuring his right thumb in the fourth inning, the senior catcher came back into the game and threw out Shawn Hayes attempting to steal third base in the sixth inning. Teammate Jason Kaye was 3-for-3 with two RBIs in the Terriers’ league-opening victory.
