Queen of Martyrs to honor late music director Pretzer

Now celebrating its 20th anniversary year,…

The Rev. Msgr. Joseph A. Funaro and The Sacred Music Society of Our Lady Queen of Martyrs will present a Tribute Concert for their late music director, Richard W. Pretzer, at 4 p.m. on Sunday afternoon, May 2.

Now celebrating its 20th anniversary year, the Sacred Music Society will be joined by the Oratorio Society of Queens and the St. John’s University Chorus to perform this concert under the artistic direction of music director of Our Lady Queen of Martyrs, David Close.

Our Lady Queen of Martyrs is the recipient of an extraordinary musical legacy that Pretzer’s talent and leadership created and sustained through the past 20 years until his untimely death in December 2002.

To honor Pretzer’s memory, the organ loft will be dedicated in his name during the concert. Pretzer loved these concerts and it was with great joy that he presented them for the parish and the community. He was extremely grateful for the opportunity to add to the beauty of Our Lady Queen of Martyrs by sharing his music with us.

Close is the artistic director of the Oratorio Society of Queens, the executive and artistic director of Musica Reginae Productions and the host of Musica Reginae’s “Accolade Concert Series” at Flushing Town Hall.

The concert will be performed in the church, located on Ascan Avenue and Queens Boulevard. Donation is $18, $15 seniors and students with ID, and children, 12 and under are free. For additional information, call the Our Lady Queen of Martyrs rectory at 718-268-6251.
