The Queensborough Community College baseball team had very little time to enjoy its second straight CUNYAC baseball championship.

Or maybe they enjoyed it too much.

Five days later the Tigers’ season came to a crashing end in a 19-4 loss to Suffolk Community College in the first round of the Region XV tournament at Legion Field in Brooklyn Monday.

Anthony Amira went 3-for-4 with a home run and four RBIs and two runs scored to lead No. 6 Suffolk (14-16), which advanced to play Dutchess CC in the second round.

“When you play the CUNY before (the Region XV tournament) and win it, it’s almost like the season is over, said Queensborough coach Craig Everett. “To some of the guys, they already won the championship.”

In the CUNY title game May 5 at the College of Staten Island, Whitestone native Frank Turzo was named MVP after going 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs, Felipe Martinez was 3-for-4 with an RBI and former Grover Cleveland standout Mike Boothby earned the win in three innings of relief.

“That was definitely one of the goals we set at the start of the season,” Everett said. “We expect to be in that game every year and we won it again.”

Catcher Anthony Gonzalez and Martinez at third base both earned All-Region XV first team honors, while outfielder Tommy Reo and second baseman Ricky Cruz were named to the second team for Queensborough, which finished its season with a 14-10 record in the region.
