Instructional Division: Rockies vs. Red Sox

Leading the offensive charge was Gaspare Artale (3-for-4, 1 run, 2 RBIs), Frank Cerillo (3-for-3, 1 run, 1 RBI), Brendan Toal (2-for-3, 1 run, 1 RBI), Ryan Ross (3-for-3, 1 run, 1 RBI) and Eric Wilhelmy (3-for-3).

Both teams made great defensive plays. Brendan Toal had a sure double taken away by a spectacular catch by the Red Sox's leftfielder, and Rockies' third baseman Michael Messina snarled a ground ball and stepped on third for the out.

Minor Division

Pond & Pond vs. Renaissance Marble

Pond & Pond continues to roll. The hitting stars were Manny Matrte and Patrick O'Reilly, who had three doubles apiece.

Pond & Pond scored in every inning and all 13 players contributed to the victory.

While all the hitting was lighting up the scoreboard, Patrick O'Reilly was keeping the opponents scoreless, striking out 13 to round out the victory.

Pond & Pond vs. Cutrone's Lawmen

Pond & Pond players gave their mothers a perfect present with a 9-1 win Sunday.

The victory was sealed with four runs in the first inning on RBI singles by Jeff Murphy, Patrick O'Reilly, Manny Merte and Joe Mortillaro.

Nick Picht and Joe Mortillaro each had multiple hits as Pond added one run in the third and fourth innings.

The icing on the cake was a three-run fifth inning highlighted by a double to center field by Dennis Hatton. The winning pitcher was Ryan Schultz. With the win Pond & Pond raised its season record to 8-0. Its next opponent is Robert Construction on May 13.

Major Division

Walsh Labella Funeral Home

Bouncing back from an 0-2 start with two sound victories, Walsh Labella got back on track.

A solid relief performance by Kenny Sumsky, who shrugged off a bases-loaded jam to strike out the next two batters, completed the game.

Excellent hitting by Thomas Ritter, Robert Myers and Kenny Sumsky rallied the team to a 17-7 victory over Robart Construction April 30, while a stellar performance by Kenny Sumsky over Cutrone's Lawmen was complemented by solid hitting from Robert Myers, Tyler Rosario and Thomas Hock.

9U Bulldog Travel Team

The 9U RGMVM Bulldogs traveled to Marine Park, Brooklyn in search of their first travel victory of the season after a couple of defeats.

The team handed the pitching duties to young hurler Matt Fox, who went four strong innings and kept the Bergen Beach Cougars' bats at bay, striking out nine along the way.

The Bulldogs' offense used a combination of patience and power at the plate to break out to a 12-0 first-inning lead. The Bulldogs won their first travel game of the season, 16-1.

The Bulldogs chartered the team bus in a Sunday morning matchup with the Cyclones.

The Cyclones jumped out to an early 4-0 lead. In the bottom of the frame the Bulldogs rallied to tie, with the bats of Fox and Sanabria driving in Buser, Hofmann, Piteo and Tully.

The game would volley back and fourth over the middle innings with some solid hitting by Joe Bursch and great defense by Brandon Acosta.

In the last inning, young fireballer Chris Piteo wiggled out of a late-inning jam behind a great catch in center by Rick Fleri.

Once again the Bulldogs went to the last inning needing a rally, With the bases loaded and Guglielmi at third, Rick Fleri lashed a single into center and drove Guglielmi home with the winning run.

With the win the Bulldogs even their record at 2-2 in the Brooklyn Federation League. Rick Fleri was awarded the dog bone for his clutch performance.
