JAMAICA — A Jamaica man was sentenced to 18 years in prison Monday for repeatedly beating his girlfriend’s three-year-old son and killing him, Queens District Attorney Richard Brown said.

Wayne Vincent, 23, of Jamaica, pleaded guilty in State Supreme Court in Kew Gardens in April to shaking and beating the child, Zaire Bobbit, over a period of time, including July 15, 2001, when the boy was severely shaken, Brown said. Zaire died several days later.

An autopsy determined that the child died from shaken baby syndrome and that he had previous fractured his ribs, arms and suffered other physical injuries, Brown said.
