KEW GARDENS — Marvin Oestricher, 19, of Springfield Gardens was sentenced to one year in jail last Thursday in connection with the fatal shooting of his girlfriend, Dominique Johnson, in December, according to Newsday.

Johnson was killed just days before Christmas on Dec. 20 at a house party in Springfield Gardens.

Immediately after the shooting, police said Oestricher was showing off a .38-caliber semiautomatic when it accidentally fired, hitting Johnson in the face.

Johnson, who had just returned home to Rochdale Village from vocational school upstate, was pronounced dead on arrival at Mary Immaculate Hospital.

Oestricher initially was arrested and charged with manslaughter, criminally negligent homicide, weapons possession and tampering with physical evidence.

According to Newsday, he pled guilty April 7 to the weapons charges, which carried a sentence of up to seven years in jail. Originally he faced up to 15 years in prison, the paper reported.

The assistant district attorney told Newsday the shooting appeared as though it were truly an accident.
