Year: Senior

Jackie Roche wrapped up her prep career in high fashion. The senior took five shots and scored once in a 2-0 win over Lab Museum United to help Arts & Business win the PSAL ‘B’ championship Saturday at St. John’s University. The goal was her seventh of the post-season, and 13th of the year on 57 shots. She also finished with nine assists- not bad for a player who never played past the first round of the playoffs before this year.

“We improved every year,” said Roche, on her way to Queens College in the fall to play soccer. “It says a lot about our team and how we worked together.”

Against Lab Museum, Roche scored on a free kick from 25 yards out midway through the first half. It was the third straight game that Roche was chosen to take a free-kick, and the captain and four-year player delivered all three times.

In the semifinals against Julia Richman Educational Center, Roche took a hand ball free-kick in the 22nd minute from 20 yards out and punched it through the upper right corner for the first goal of a game the Bulls won 3-0. Arts & Business has not allowed a goal since Beach Channel managed to score in a 9-1 drubbing on March 24. That’s 15 games without giving up a goal. “I focus the team around the captains,” said head coach Keith Horan. “They’re the reason we’re successful.”
