Adamkiewicz led the Eagles to the PSAL ‘B’ title in his first year as manager. The stoic leader kept his erratic fielding team, which committed seven errors in the final, together against Beach Channel by first getting his players to relax at Shea Stadium and by keeping starting pitcher, Chris Guillou focused during the 6-5 win.
“I was trying to calm them down a little bit,” he said. “It was pretty stressful playing at Shea, and I told them to just shake it [the errors] off and just move on.”
First round losers a year ago, Adamkiewicz guided his team to a 15-1 regular season finish and made his players, which included seven seniors in the starting line-up, believe that they had what it takes to win the championship game.
