In a battle of unbeaten teams, the Ridgewood-Glendale-Middle Village-Mapeth Little League defeated Ozone-Howard Little League 11-6 Sunday at Seither Stadium in the District 27 Minor Division tournament.

Ozone-Howard scored three runs in the top of the first inning off starter Marco Martino, but RGMVM answered with four runs off Ozone-Howard starter Rich Hernandez.

After a scoreless second inning, Ozone-Howard tied the game on a steal home in the third inning. RGMVM scored six times in the bottom of the third inning.

Martino had an 11-5 cushion heading into the final inning and, after giving up one more run, ended the game with a groundout to first baseman Nicholas Picht.

In six innings, Martino gave up six runs on 10 hits, striking out eight and walking nine. He reveived defensive support from his batterymate Mike Guglielmi, who threw out three Ozone-Howard runners attempting to steal.

The hitting stars for RGMVM were Joe Mortillaro, who was 2-for-4 with four RBIs and a run scored, Picht, who was 2-for-2 with a walk, one RBI and a run scored, Chris Piteo, who was 1-for-2 with two walks, two RBIs and two runs scored and Chris Hardardt, who was 1-for-2 with two RBIs for RGMVM, who will face either Ozone-Howard or Rockaway, in the next game Saturday at 11 a.m. at Ozone-Howard Stadium.

On July 7 at Rosedale’s D’Ambrosio Stadium, RGMVM cruised past Rosedale Little League, 22-1.

RGMVM scored 12 runs in the first inning and then added 10 in the third inning.

They were led by Joe Byrnes, who was 4-for-5 with a double, three RBIs and three runs scored, Mike D’Agostino, who was 3-for-3 with a walk, four RBIs and three runs scored, Picht was 2-for-2 with two walks, three RBIs and two runs scored and Hardardt, who was 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored.

Joe Mortillaro, Joe Byrnes, Chris Piteo and Mike D’Agostino each pitched an inning for RGMVM, combining to limit Rosedale to one run on one hit with 10 strikeouts,
