Jackson Heights — Two women were arrested at LaGuardia Airport July 16 for allegedly using the credit card information of 60 University of North Carolina public television pledge drive donors to buy flights along the East Coast, said Queens District
Manhattan residents Syretta Scott, 23, and Adaeze Okeke, 22, were charged with grand larceny, identity theft, scheming to defraud, falsifying business records and unlawful possession of personal identification information, the district attorney said. If convicted, they face up to seven years in prison.
Brown said that Okeke was a temp for UNC public television, where she handled data entry for pledges. She and Scott were charged with using donor information to buy 18 package tours between New York, North Carolina and Virginia from an Internet travel service.
They were arraigned Saturday before Queens Criminal Court Judge John B. Latella Jr., who set bail for Okeke at $5,000 and released Scott on her own recognizance, Brown said. The judge set a return date of Aug. 11.
