I just read that one of the beautiful Bengal tigers called Apollo broke out and went onto the Jackie Robinson Parkway. The animal did not bite anyone but did cause car accidents. I guess he must be a fan and was trying to follow me. They retrieved Apollo and brought the tiger back to the circus.Happy birthday to Caitlin Marie Chopard, who turned 2 on Aug. 3. On July 31 the family had a party for her as well as a housewarming celebration to congratulate Melissa and Tom on their new home.Holy Trinity Rosary Society and Friends, The National Council of Catholic Women, is sponsoring Council Day at the Races Saturday, Oct. 2, at Belmont Park. Luncheon will be at noon, and the doors open at 11 a.m. The cost is $35, which includes admission to the clubhouse, lunch served in the Garden Terrace (where you may view the races from your table) and a program. The deadline is Sept. 1 to bring your check to the rectory to reserve a seat. The Brothers of Holy Cross at Holy Cross High School in Flushing are in search of a cook for the weekday (Monday through Friday) evening meal. Ten brothers reside at the high school. Our Lady of Sorrows School in Corona will be holding a reunion luncheon for all classes, students and faculty on Aug. 21. For more information, contact Serina Sharkey at 201-967-7406.Ivan Lee, John Tiomokin and Keith Smart from St. John's University were to compete in the Olympics starting Aug. 13 in Athens, Greece. My grandchildren and I finally got to see “Garfield” in Douglaston, as it left the multiplex in College Point very quickly. It was adorable. We took the Circle Line Cruise and it was just beautiful and even the sun came out. Seeing the Statue of Liberty, Empire State Building, Chrysler Building and the rest was a sure delight.The First Reformed Church of College Point will be holding its ice cream social and dog show Saturday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sabina Says … Don't let the raindrops defer your itinerary.
