Oratorio’s Spring Show
The Oratorio Society of Queens, under the artistic direction of Maestro David Close, is rehearsing for the annual Spring Concert May 16 featuring Mendelssohn’s “Elijah” and opera and Americana favorites. Crossing the Boulevard
The Queens Museum of Art presents “Crossing the BLVD: strangers, neighbors, aliens in a new America,” a multi-media project by documentary artists Warren Lehrer and Judith Sloan that portrays the lives of new immigrants and refugees who live in Queens, the most ethnically diverse locality in the United States today. Lehrer/Sloan’s three-year journey around the world via their home borough is documented in an extraordinary new book of photographs and stories (W.W. Norton), an audio CD, a series of public radio documentaries, a reading/performance tour, a Web site, and this exhibition of photographs, sound stations, and the interactive Crossing the BLVD Mobile Story Booth. Yung Shu Chao: Pondering Pond
The Queens Museum of Art presents “Pondering Pond.” Meditation – an essential Buddhist practice for spiritual liberation – doesn’t mean nap time. In Pondering Pond, visitors answer Zen koans to break their ordinary logic and to open themselves to the unknown. Making origami focuses overstimulated minds, while a swirling, illuminated pool in which the origami float alters the perception of time passing as the ephemeral vessels slowly sink.
