In this fast-paced, technology-driven world, many have not really understood what a true friend is. Many have not even experienced such a relationship.

And I am lucky to say that I have had the pleasure of experiencing a few great friendships in my life while growing up in Queens, so I would just like to explore some of the attributes a true friend may possess.

A true friend should love unconditionally — not to say that there shouldn’t be any rough spots in the road, it’s just that after any of those angry moments, you forgive and forget.

True friends have the great mentality of not letting something that happened in the past ruin what happiness you could have in the present.

If you think about it, it’s only natural that people argue — it’s even said to be healthy. I mean, how boring would it be if you agreed on everything? Where is the fun in that?

And that is why you have to realize that friends aren’t exactly the same. They might have similarities, but they also have to have differences. The key to opening up the world of friendship is not only to expand on similarities but to accept each other’s flaws, because you should not ever judge your friend, let alone anyone else.

True friends are people who feel completely comfortable together. In fact, they are so comfortable that they become something like family.

Some people think you have to know someone really well to become good friends. They feel you have to spend all your time with each other, and when you haven’t spent as much time together then that means you aren’t that close anymore.

Trust me, it’s not true. This happens very often with one of my best friends Georgia and me. We aren’t able to see one another for weeks at a time, between work and school, but then when we finally hang out or get to talking it’s almost as if no time has elapsed. I guess it’s because we have such a strong bond that the factor of time does not put a damper on the friendship.

People have to understand that just because you have not spent a lot of time together does not mean that the friendship is lost.

We should always keep in mind that true friends should last forever. And it is up to you to keep it that way. So when they do something that is really annoying, weird or crazy, that’s when you should love them even more — just for being different.
