Community Board 12 elects Black as new chairwoman

By Courtney Dentch

Black, who served as first vice chairwoman under Davis, stepped up to run the board's meetings as acting chairwoman after Davis died in September.

Black, a longtime board member, was elected by the board members following a unanimous vote, said Yvonne Reddick, the board's district manager. Black did not have an opponent.

Davis died of a massive heart attack Sept. 4, less than two weeks before Community Board 12 reconvened after its summer break. Davis, who was 46, worked as a dispatcher for the New York Transit Authority and joined Community Board 12 in the mid-1980s. He became a vice chairman in 1991 and chairman in 1992.

The board also elected Manuel Caughman as first vice president, Reddick said. Caughman takes the seat left empty by Black's election.
