TimesLedger Athlete of the Week: Ryan Leak

Each week the TimesLedger sports staff selects one high school athlete from Queens as the TimesLedger Athlete of the Week. This week the honor goes to Bayside High School basketball player Ryan Leak.

Name: Ryan Leak

School: Bayside High School

Sport: Basketball

Position: Forward

Year: Senior

Hometown: Jamaica

It’s hard to tell what was more impressive, that Ryan Leak eclipsed the 1,000-point plateau against Far Rockaway or that he scored a career-high 48 points in a victory over Campus Magnet. The senior forward did both last week for Bayside in the Queens Borough Championship.

Leak, who now has 1,068 career points, had 30 points against the SeaHorses Friday in the first round before exploding against the Bulldogs in Saturday’s semifinal and helping the Commodores reach the finals.
