DePhillips Sporting Goods tops Whitestone Car Wash, 76-60

In the first of three senior division games on Sunday evening, the DePhillips Sporting Goods team defeated the Whitestone Car Wash team, 76-60. Eddie Johnston led DePhillips with 28 points, including seven three-pointers, tying a DG record.

Scott Leo, Mena Yacoub and Zach Frankel scored 20, 16 and 11 points, respectively. Matt Santeufemia was very potent off the boards for the victors. The Car Wash team had four players in double figures. Carlo Coumoutsis, Mike Alban, Teddy Rojas and Chris Mogollon scored 13, 13, 12 and 11 points, respectively. Nick Vigorito and Lucas Lay played their usual strong games off the boards.

The second game saw Gleason’s Funeral Home defeat Cascarino’s Pizzeria, 66-32. Jim Brady excelled, scoring 23, and was a strong rebounding force. Marco Laporto added to the victory, pouring in 14 points. Anthony Kapovic and Phil Leist played very well for the Cascarino team, scoring a combined 28 points.

In the final and most exciting senior game, Clintonville Restaurant defeated Berardi Bakery, 46-43. The pace was frenetic as the lead changed frequently. Andreas Kurumusis led the Clintonville team with 19 points and had a strong all-around game despite playing with a knee injury.

Joe Montgomery and the Finkelman brothers, Jonathan and Justin, also contributed to the win with their outstanding play. Jonathan Matthews carried the Berardi team, scoring 17 points, which included several three-pointers and some dazzling drives. Mark Williams and Dan Kenny played extremely well even though their team came up short.
