How’s Business? Dating scenes

By Joe Palumbo III

Jay Rosensweig, founder and owner of weekenddating.com, at 210-50 41st Ave. in Bayside, says he has a solution. Weekenddating.com is a dating system that is set up to cut to the chase, without all the legwork of going out to bars and clubs. He calls it speed dating.”Speed dating gives you an alternative to the pick-up scene,” Rosensweig said. I give people in different age categories – 21 through 59 – the opportunity to go on 20 dates in one night.”Here's how it works. People go online or call to sign up for the dating event he's throwing, for example at the Sly Fox in Fresh Meadows. Each event has about 40 people signed on at a time.”At the event, we rotate the guys and girls so that they all each have a four-minute conversation with each other,” Rosensweig said.Every person is given a scorecard with the option to circle “yes” or “no” to each person they meet. You turn in your scorecard at the end of the evening and the following day you receive an e-mail letting you know whom you matched up with. The e-mail provides the other person's name and e-mail as well, to contact one another.”It's a fabulous ice breaker that takes the pressure off,” he said.So how's business with regard to dating services?” Like with any business, you need a solid business model, which I think weekenddating.com has created. I was also impressed by Rosensweig's sincerity and commitment to seeing that his clientele is happy with the services he provides.
