Millennium Pediatrics: Caring For Your Children

By Camille Sperrazza

When it comes to our children’s health, we all want the very best care. Be assured that they will receive it at Millennium Pediatrics (7001 Avenue U, between E. 70 and E. 71 Streets, 718-241-1488). At this state-of-the-art medical facility, children are cared for by professionals such as Dr. Jordan Meyers, a pediatrician who trains other doctors. Dr. Meyers shares his 40 years of expertise with medical residents, many who hail from Maimonides Hospital. “They train here, and they go on to graduate into private practice,” he says. Dr. Meyers has also brought his skills to Laos, Southeast Asia, where as a part of Health Frontiers, he spent four weeks visiting hospitals teaching residents how to make rounds. It fulfilled a great need for the people there. “There are about 2 million children in Laos,” says Dr. Meyers. Yet, when he arrived, there were only “a handful of pediatricians.” By offering his services, he “helped increase the number of pediatricians” to this area, and “graduated the first group of residents in Laos.” This was about two years ago. These days, Dr. Meyers is sticking closer to home. He is the Post-Graduate Chairperson for Grand Rounds, teaching at Maimonides Hospital. His associate, Dr. Jennifer Pintiliano, another doctor at Millennium Pediatrics, is also on the teaching staff there. In addition, Dr. Pintiliano is the Vice Chairperson of Coney Island Hospital. The facility is also associated with NY Methodist Hospital. It is this kind of expertise that is brought to Millennium Pediatrics. Other doctors on staff include Dr. Lyudmila Sverkunava and Dr. Rafik Khaimav. All physicians are board-certified pediatricians, primary care specialists who offer a full range of medical services. Specialists who practice at Millennium Pediatrics are Dr. Gadi Avshalomov, an allergy immunologist, and Dr. Robert G. Meyers, a child, adolescent, and adult psychologist. Because Millennium Pediatrics is located inside a medical facility, families can also take advantage of the services of an internist and obstetrician who practice in the same building. “We’re a one-stop medical facility,” says Dr. Jordan Meyers, and this makes it convenient for the whole family to keep good health a top priority. The office handles the full gamut of medical needs, from the emergency to the routine, with well-baby care, physical exam requirements for school and camp, hearing and vision tests, and vaccines. It also boasts a complete lab for blood testing. As babies don’t often get sick during convenient hours, “We’re always available,” says Dr. Meyers. “Walk-ins are welcome, and we never refuse anybody.” The staff is multi-lingual. They speak languages which include Spanish, Hebrew, French, “and everything in between,” says Dr. Meyers. The staff believes in providing “tender, loving care,” for children. “It’s important to have a home environment for the pediatric patient,” says the doctor, explaining your young one should be treated by someone who knows your child and understands their medical history. This warm environment, combined with a top staff, is what parents and children can expect to find at Millennium Pediatrics. As Dr. Meyers is so involved in academics, he has access to the best doctors in their fields, and is able to get consultations “with a phone call,” he says. As a result, the center is very “cost effective,” he notes. “It’s very rare to have to go to the hospital,” as many treatments can be done right in the offices of Millennium Pediatrics. The facility remains involved with the community by offering lectures on topics such as asthma. These enrichment discussions are offered at schools and at businesses, as Millennium Pediatrics works closely with school nurses, coaches, and community centers to see that all remain healthy and well. Visit this modern facility Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, 9 a.m. until 7 p.m.; on Fridays from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m.; Saturdays, 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. and Sundays, 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Most insurance plans are accepted as full or partial payment.
