St. Albans cop dragging suspect charged: DA

At about 4:05 p.m., police said a man in his late 20s driving a 2005 black Nissan Altima was stopped by a detective from the Queens South Task Force. The Queens district attorney's office said the suspect was pulled over for not wearing his seatbelt. According to a criminal complaint filed by the DA's office, the uniformed officer asked the driver to get out of the car. At that point the man reached out, grabbed the detective's arm and drove away while holding his arm, the complaint said. As the detective was dragged, he was able to see the car's speedometer and determined that the car was traveling at 30 miles per hour, the complaint said.When the officer wrestled his arm free, the drive sped off, the complaint said. Police said the detective suffered a cut to his head during the incident. . He was taken to a nearby hospital in stable condition.About 2 1/2 hours later, the car was found near the corner of 102nd Avenue and 221st Street with a woman at the wheel. Police said they arrested and charged her with obstructing governmental administration. The woman was identified as Krystal Washington, 20, of Queens Village. At 12:30 p.m. Sunday, police arrested the male suspect, Darrin Wilkerson, 26, in Brooklyn. He is being charged with attempted murder, reckless endangerment, assault and failure to wear a seatbelt, according to a criminal complaint filed by the DA's office. The detective suffered “lacerations, contusions, bruising, swelling, redness and substantial pain to his head and arm” as a result of the incident, according to the complaint. “It's pretty unfortunate,” said Mike Murphy, spokesman for Councilman Peter Vallone Jr. (D-Astoria), chairman of the City Council's Public Safety Committee, of the incident.Reach reporter Howard Koplowitz by e-mail at news@timesledger.com or by phone at 718-229-0300, Ext. 173
