We have so many people from the Chinese American community,” Councilman John Liu (D-Flushing) said. “They make a terrific couple. Let's celebrate this beautiful evening together.” Fernando Ferrer, Democratic mayoral candidate and former Bronx borough president, was also there to offer marriage advice. “You begin to understand after the 20th year how right your wife is all the time,” Ferrer said. The cultural differences did not seem to bother the new couple. The host of the reception spoke both Chinese and English, but throughout it was clear the Chinese influence was there.
