How’s Business? Clothes make the man!

By Joe Palumbo III

Seeing someone come into a room looking well put together often tips us off to that person's ability, capability and, certainly, confidence. This week I spoke with Stacy Solow from Goody's Men's Shop, founded in 1923 and located at 82-09 153rd St. in Howard Beach. Goody's Men's Shop is a third-generation family owned and operated business managed by Stacy and her father Freddy. I asked Stacy to tell me about the clientele serviced in their shop. Stacy said that most of their business is repeat and referral based. “We have repeat clients who travel from Long Island, Staten Island, Brooklyn and even as far as New Jersey, for the clothing we offer and custom fit for our clients,” she said.Phil Monfoletto does expert tailoring right on premises for the customers' convenience, she said, adding that “Goody's Men's Shop is service oriented as a men's clothing store, which is very uncommon today, because of all the super stores that have arisen over the recent years.” Goody's does do custom tailoring for both men and women and offers a women's product line as well. I was surprised by the variety offered by Goody's Men's Shop. It isn't just another suit store; they had everything from tailored fitting suits, sweaters, ties and shirts to bathing suits for an upcoming vacation. So How's Business in regards to Goody's Men's Shop? I am sure we have all (at least one time) thought to ourselves, “I really wish my clothes looked or fit better.” I am a firm believer that the majority of people (both men and women) are affected in some mental capacity by how they are dressed each day.
