Man arrested in Bayside shooting

Shakey Foster, of 168-37 118th Road, was arrested in the vicinity of his home around 5:15 p.m. Wednesday on charges of assault in connection with the shooting, according to Lt. Daniel Heffernan of the 111th Precinct. He was also wanted in connection with a robbery in the 113th Precinct, Heffernan said.

The shooting took place Jan. 13 around 59th Avenue and Springfield Boulevard after a basketball game between Cardozo and Jamaica High School. The victim, a 17-year-old Jamaica High student, was taken to North Shore University Hospital with a gunshot wound to the back. His injuries were described as non-life-threatening, according to police.

Foster was arrested after a joint investigation by police from the 111th and the 113th Precincts. Police said he has a prior arrest history.
