Silver Beach residents react to burglary spree

By Bobby Ciafardini

The 45th Precinct has reissued a warning reminding residents of Silver Beach to lock the doors and windows of their homes and garages to safeguard against burglaries, just as a coalition of concerned residents offered a $7,000 reward for the arrest and conviction of whoever is responsible for the handful of break-ins in the community.

While many residents in Silver Beach have grown accustomed to leaving their doors unlocked when they leave their home, police said this week that burglars might be taking advantage of that, and targeting homes and garages in the tight-knit community. Captain Joseph Downing, executive officer of the 45th Precinct, informed residents in November of four burglaries in Silver Beach, all believed to have resulted from unlocked doors and garages.
