Crowley defeated in bid for Democratic caucus post

By Adam Pincus

U.S. Rep. Joseph Crowley (D-Jackson Heights) lost his bid for the fourth-highest leadership position in the House Democratic Caucus Wednesday, the Associated Press reported, a blow to the pro-labor congressman who had been leading in informal head counts over the past several months.

The contender who had been running last in the three-way contest ended up winning on the second ballot, making U.S. Rep. John Larson (D-Conn.) the new Democratic Caucus vice chairman, the AP reported.

He defeated Crowley 116-87.

The third candidate for the position, U. S. Rep Jan Schakowsky (D-Ill.), lost in the first round of voting, AP reported.
