SENIOR ROBBED ON WAY HOME: A 70-year-old woman was robbed of her purse and knocked to the ground as she walked down the 200 block of Sackett Street, officials said. Police said that she was walking home from the subway station at 4:30 p.m. on January 29 when the unidentified suspect grabbed her from behind. After a brief struggle, the suspect ripped the purse away from the elderly woman, causing her to fall to the ground. The victim suffered a cut and a bump to the head during the exchange, officials said. Witnesses told police that the thief, described as a 5’5”, 160-pound black male wearing a blue snorkel jacket with a hood ran down Sackett Street and disappeared in a parking lot near Court Street. Cops are asking anyone with information about this incident to come forward. Calls can be made to the 76th Precinct at (718) 834-3211. All calls will be kept confidential. *** CASH, JEWELRY TAKEN FROM HOME: Thieves broke into a home on the 100 block of 4th Place last week, taking $1000 in cash, $19,000 in jewelry…and a pair of sneakers, officials said. Police said that the thief entered the home through a side door sometime between noon and 2:30 p.m. The jewelry, he said, was found in a rear bedroom. Cops believe that the suspect exited the home through a front door. A five carat diamond bracelet was among the jewelry taken during the break-in, officials said. Police are investigating. *** EVERYONE WANTS TO BREAK INTO 4th PLACE: Just a few days after the previous burglary, cops were back on the 100 block of 4th Place responding to a burglary. The victim, 46, told police that someone broke into his home sometime between 10:30 p.m. on January 27 and 4 a.m. the next morning. The thief, officials said, entered the home through a rear window that was closed, but unlocked. Police said that the thief took a $1500 computer and a red laundry bag, which he probably used to carry the computer. *** LOCKED UP AND ROBBED OF CELL: A 19-year-old man told police that he was put in a headlock and robbed of his cell phone recently. The victim told police that he was standing on the corner of Clinton and Court streets just before 6 p.m. on January 10 when someone snuck up behind him and wrapped his arm around his neck. After demanding his property, the suspect grabbed the victim’s $70 cell phone and fled. The thug, described as a 5’7”, 140 pound Hispanic male was last seen running westbound toward Clinton Street, officials said. The victim was not harmed. Cops are asking anyone with information regarding this incident to come forward. Calls can be made to the 76th Precinct at (718) 834-3211. All calls will be kept confidential. *** MORE CELL SHENANIGANS: A 14-year-old boy told police Thursday that he was robbed of his cell phone as he waited for a train at the Carroll Street station. The victim said that he was on the north bound platform near the President Street entrance when two males approached him, demanding to know what was in his pockets. The suspects then threatened to beat the 14-year-old if he didn’t let them go through his pockets. The thieves pulled a Nextel 830 from the victim’s pocket and ran off, leaving the victim unharmed. The thieves were described as two 16-year-old black males between 5’5” and 5’8” tall. As of this writing, cops were still looking for the two suspects. Anyone with information regarding there whereabouts are urged to contact the 76th Precinct at (718) 834-3211. All calls will be kept confidential. *** COPS: HELP CLEAN UP GRAFFITI WHILE EARNING SOME GREEN: As the ongoing war against graffiti vandals continues, cops are now offering up to $500 in reward money to anyone who can offer them information that can lead them to anyone who commits graffiti vandalism. The hefty reward is part of the city’s new push to rid New York of graffiti vandals. Graffiti is one of the leading quality of life complaints brought to police. Officials said that cleaning up graffiti is essential to the plan, to show that the community is no longer going to tolerate marred and tagged-up walls and street corners. According to police there is a perception that if a community will tolerate graffiti, they will tolerate other criminal activities, such as drug dealing and prostitution. Anyone with information about graffiti vandalism is urged to contact either 311 or 911. *** MAN JUMPS FROM PIERREPONT BUILDING: Police were called to 70 Pierrepont Street last week after an unidentified man jumped from the window of his sixth-floor apartment. Officials said that the man, 65, was found lying face-down in the alley of the building. The man was dead on arrival. Police later determined that the victim may have jumped from his apartment window in an apparent suicide. Police are investigating. *** INDECENT PROPOSAL: A nine-year-old girl told police last week that someone took her cell phone and then offered to give it back only if she performed a sexual act on him. The child said that she was in a friend’s apartment on the 70 block of Henry Street at 7 p.m. on January 26 when the two people she was with, a boy and a girl, took her Nextel. The female friend said that she wouldn’t give it back unless she stripped down and “performed a sex act” on the boy. The girl claimed that the boy touched her privates through her clothes and would have done worse, if she didn’t bite him in the arm and run out of the apartment. Cops are currently investigating the young girl’s claims. *** RESTAURANT BURGLARIZED: Cops are investigating the recent break-in at a Montague Street restaurant. Officials said that someone broke into the side door of the restaurant, located on the 80 block of Montague Street, by busting through a side door. It was unclear as this paper went to press if anything had been taken. Police said that the break-in took place sometime between midnight and 6:30 a.m. on January 26. Anyone with information regarding this incident is urged to come forward. Calls can be made to the 84th Precinct at (718) 875-6311. All calls will be kept confidential.
