Bronx transplants chance it with Sixmilecross, hoping locals bite

It was nothing more than a friendly gesture that brought Gerard McNamee, Jr., to City Island for the first time last summer. The 35-year-old former bar owner, who was born in Bedford Park but grew up in Hicksville and then shuffled around the East Coast, had agreed to come up from Fort Lauderdale to help an old professor from Fordham University move to Florida.

It was during that visit that he first spotted the vacant tavern space on City Island Avenue.
