Morris High School Campus Museum opens inside landmark building

By Jon Minners

Morris High School may have closed in June 2005 to make way for five smaller high schools, but its legacy will live on in the form of a new museum housed inside the landmark building that has just opened, with plans to expand with the help of others who want to celebrate the spirit and memories of the famed school for years to come.

With over 100 years of educating the future leaders of America, including former Secretary of State Colin Powell, the five principals that would remain on the campus, on 166th Street and Boston Road, decided to dedicate one room within the building to house a museum that would educate the community about the former school, the well-known building and the rich, cultural surrounding community of Morrisania.
