By Nathan Duke

Queens native Cuomo, former President Bill Clinton's housing secretary and son of former Gov. Mario Cuomo, was endorsed two weeks ago by the Queens Democratic Organization for the state attorney general nomination. He has also received endorsements from former Manhattan Borough President Percy Sutton and longtime U.S. Rep. Edolphus Towns (D-Brooklyn).Carrion announced his endorsement on the steps of City Hall last Thursday with about 20 Bronx residents in attendance to show support. The Bronx borough president said Cuomo has a history of success in the borough, including a not-for-profit for the homeless called HELP he created, combating predatory lending and helping residents achieve homeownership.Carrion said Cuomo will uphold the standard of leadership set by Attorney General Eliot Spitzer, who is running for governor, by continuing to fight for social justice issues and an improved health care system.”We know there is a Medicare fraud of nearly $2 billion in this state,” Carrion said. “Andrew has said he will do for the health care industry what Eliot Spitzer did for Wall Street.”Cuomo is currently leading the attorney general race in fund-raising.Other candidates for the Democratic nomination include Mark Green, former public advocate; state Assemblyman Richard Brodsky (D-Elmsford); and Sean Maloney, a former Clinton aide. Former Westchester County District Attorney Jeanine Pirro is running on the Republican line.Assemblyman Michael Gianaris (D-Astoria) withdrew from the race late last year.Reach reporter Nathan Duke by email at news@timesledger.com or by phone at 718-229-0300, Ext. 156.
