District 20 Puts Musical Students Center Stage

By Helen Klein

The students of District 20 hit a high note during the most recent meeting of the district’s Community Education Council (CEC). Students in bands and choruses at five of the district’s elementary schools provided musical performances at what the CEC had dubbed the district’s winter concert, which took place during the February CEC meeting, at Public School 164, 4211 14th Avenue. Children from five schools – P.S. 164, Public School 48, Public School 229, Public School 205 and Public School 247 – performed a variety of instrumental and vocal pieces. “We are very proud in District 20 of our music programs,” remarked Carlo Scissura, the CEC’s president, who said that the evening was “really about celebrating our community.” P.S. 48 is located at 6015 18th Avenue. P.S. 229 is located at 1400 Benson Avenue. P.S. 205 is located at 6701 20th Avenue. P.S. 247 is located at 7000 21st Avenue. District 20 oversees schools in Bay Ridge, Dyker Heights, and portions of Bensonhurst, Sunset Park and Boro Park.
