By Jon Minners

Every once in a while, you run across a team where everything comes together at the right time. In Bronx A West, that team would be Samuel Gompers.

The Panthers have jumped out to a 7-0 record and look well on their way to running away with the division. Grace Dodge started off the season with a big win over Walton, 58 to 48 and then never looked back, winning the next six games over division schools like Bronx High School of Science, Roosevelt Educational Campus and Jane Addams while also winning against the strong Bronx A Division school, Evander (5-2), by a score of 61 to 52 to kick off December.

Most recently, Grace Dodge beat its nearest rivals, the second place Alfred E. Smith High School, 88 to 78.

Leading the way was Frederi Simpson, who scored 23 points along with seven assists. Larry Lipscomb also dominated the game with 24 points. But scoring was spread out as Shakeil Blakey and Tony Webbly added 17 points each to go along with Webbly
