College Round-Up: Former CK star starting for Columbia

By Marc Raimondi

Scott, now a freshman at Columbia, started for the Lions, who fell to St. John's, 76-70, but the underdogs put up a heck of a fight. “We feel like we're just as good as them,” said Scott, who prepped for a year at Brewster Academy before settling in at Columbia's Morningside Heights campus. The Lions (7-5) have been playing like a team that could challenge for the Ivy League title. And Scott is one of the biggest reasons why. In his first season, the 6-foot-3 guard has started five games and is fourth on the team in scoring and second in three-pointers (15).”It just shows how hard I've been working,” Scott said.Wolff's happy homecoming. Boston University head coach Dennis Wolff also had a good experience playing St. John's. His Terriers forced the Red Storm into overtime last Thursday night at Madison Square Garden before eventually falling, 45-44. Wolff and Director of Basketball Operations Kevin Fitzgerald are both Queens natives – Wolff from Bayside and Fitzgerald, a former St. Francis Prep standout, from Belle Harbor. Wolff was a star guard at Holy Cross, helping the Knights to an overall mark of 55-11 as a three-year starter. As a senior captain, he guided them to the 1973 Brooklyn-Queens championship. The coach was asked after the game if he took his family to some of his favorite restaurants in Manhattan, to which he replied, “All my favorite restaurants are in Bayside.”
