Bridge construction to close BQE, GCP

Sections of the roads will be closed from 12:01 a.m. on Feb. 3 to 5 a.m. on Feb. 5 depending on weather conditions, the department said. Construction crews will dismantle the temporary bridges and demolish existing abutments of the bridge over the GCP.During construction, which also closed the roadways between Jan. 27 and Jan. 29, the bridge will remain open to traffic with one of two lanes operating northbound and two lanes maintained southbound.Two of three eastbound GCP lanes will be operational between 31st Street and 49th Street, from the Triboro Bridge to the BQE interchange. One of three GCP westbound lanes will also be open between 49th Street and the Triboro Bridge approach. But the eastbound entrance ramp to the GCP at 33rd Street and the entrance ramp at 74th Street to the westbound GCP will be closed to traffic.The ramp from the eastbound BQE to the westbound GCP will also be closed and BQE motorists will be detoured onto Astoria Boulevard North, where they can access local streets and the Triboro Bridge.No stopping will be allowed on Astoria Boulevard North between 31st Street and 82nd Street, on Astoria Boulevard South between 47th Street and 31st Street and the BQE Service Road between 47th Street and 49th Street on Friday through Monday from noon to 5 a.m. Reach reporter Nathan Duke by e-mail at news@timesledger.com or by phone at 718-229-0300, Ext. 156.
