Ex-NYHQ employee busted in $63K embezzle case

Queens DA Richard Brown said Carla Henderson, formerly of 34-20 24th St. in Astoria, was employed by New York Hospital from September 2003 to June 2004. Brown said during that time, Henderson allegedly diverted nine checks totaling $63,381 to a shell company she created named New York Health Medical Care Quality, which utilized the same initials as the hospital.

Henderson then allegedly deposited the checks into her personal account.

Henderson was arrested and extradited from her current home in Marietta, GA, last week and indicted in Queens Criminal Court Friday, Brown said. Henderson's 32-count indictment includes charges of second degree grand larceny, identity theft, scheme to defraud and falsifying business records. If convicted, Henderson faces up to 15 years in prison.

“The defendant is accused of using her position of trust as a fiduciary agent almost from the first day of her employment to unjustly enrich herself by siphoning tens of thousands of dollars payable to the hospital,” Brown said.
