STATE DOT STARTS CLEANING UP MESS

Months after local officials first questioned why an unsightly storage area along the Throgs Neck Expressway had remained in place, years after the project for which it was installed was completed, the state has begun to take action.

In recent weeks, the Department of Transportation has cleared several trailers and loads of construction materials from the previously graffiti-plastered, half-tarped staging area located directly across from Bicentennial Veterans Memorial Park.

State officials have promised to keep only one trailer on site, which will be converted into a mobile office to oversee nearby construction projects. They also promised to keep the office tag-free and to make sure no materials are stored locally.
