Flushing man built illegal arsenal in apartment: Police

By Ivan Pereira

Suwei Chuang, 36, of 135-11 40 Rd., was arrested after police received information that he was carrying a weapon in Flushing. A search of his car revealed he kept an illegal assault rifle in his trunk along with 18 magazine clips, police said.

Officers then searched his apartment, where they found more contraband, including an automatic machine gun, a shotgun, rifles, combat knives and 20,000 rounds of ammunition. Police said some of those rounds included armor-piercing bullets.

Chuang was arraigned in Queens Criminal Court on charges of criminal possession of a weapon Thursday. Police said they believe that he was an illegal arms dealer and not planning any terrorist attack.

They said they will be searching for Chuang's suspected buyers. Anyone with information is asked to call Crimestoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477).
